Carter G. Woodson, born in 1875 died in 1950, was the second African American to receive a doctorate from Harvard, after the knowledgeable W.E.B.

Du Bois. Additionally, Woodson created the Negro History Bulletin in 1937 to help teachers with the African American study. Woodson was determined to make Black History Month a nationwide practice and in February of 1969, Black History Month  finally became a nationwide reality.
