MIAMI GARDENS, FL. (Florida Memorial University is proud to announce the grand opening of its Center for Entrepreneurship.
Located at 616 NW 2nd Avenue, Suite 210 in Fort Lauderdale, the FMU Center for Entrepreneurship will serve as a beacon for innovation and economic empowerment in the heart of the Sistrunk community.
“Minority owned businesses creates inclusivity within the market and the aim of this center is to provide services to help those businesses to succeed,” said FMU Interim President William McCormick. “Florida Memorial University is the only historic Black university in South Florida, and we are extremely proud to now have a business center in Fort Lauderdale’s oldest African American community, which is named after Dr. James Franklin Sistrunk, co-founder of Provident Hospital, Broward County’s first Black hospital. There is incredible history here and we are honored to be a part of the legacy.”
The Center for Entrepreneurship is an academic support unit within FMU’s School of Business that is committed to equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to thrive in today’s dynamic business environment.

The Sistrunk Business Center is designed to foster innovation and provide vital resources to aspiring entrepreneurs, with programs including business forums, coaching, and networking events.
“We envision the Sistrunk Marketplace Business Center as a hub for dynamic collaboration and growth,” added Dr. Kenasha Paul, Director of the FMU Center for Entrepreneurship. “Our goal is to provide business resources that foster professional growth and entrepreneurial success among students and business owners.”
In addition to the Center for Entrepreneurship, FMU has also established an on-campus Genesis Lab, which is a student-centered space offering two professional development pathways, Student to CEO and Student to C-Suite, also headed by Dr. Paul.
Founded in 1879, Florida Memorial University is the only Historically Black College and University in South Florida. FMU is a private, coeducational, culturally diverse institution that offers 26 undergraduate programs, four graduate programs, and several professional programs.
