More than 75 people attended The Fort Lauderdale Kappa League’s open house on Sept. 27 as it kicked off its 2015 – 2016 programming year. The program returned 25 Kappa Leaguers and expanded with 26 new members, bringing the membership to a grand total of 51 Kappa Leaguers.

Guide Right is a national program conceived in 1922 under the leadership of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated.  The purposes of the Guide Right Service Programs are to place the training, experience, and friendly interest of successful men, at the disposal of youth needing inspiration and counsel regarding their choice of a life’s career, while the community is made aware of the problems that may be encountered as these young men seek to realize lives of usefulness.

The Fort Lauderdale Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated has implemented its Guide Right Program with Kappa League. It embodies all aspects of the National Program with specific emphasis on leadership development and self-motivation for career achievement.

Kappa League is a program for the educational, occupational and social guidance of male students in grades 7th-12th.  The nucleus and primary focus of the Kappa League revolves around the “Five Phases” which are:

  1. Self-Identity— Discipline, Assurance, Awareness, and Appearance
  2. Training— Academic, Career-Choice, Preparation, and Organization
  3. Competition— Politics, Career Advancement, and Sports
  4. Social— Religion, The Arts, Entertainment, Conversation/Communication, and Etiquette/Manners
  5. Health— Education Physical Fitness, Sex Education, Drug Education, and Health and Safety

This year’s officers have been selected and already are off and running.  The president is Rogerick Bryant, a senior at Dillard 6-12 School, the vice president is Tahir Rogers, an eighth grader at Nova Middle School, the secretary is Amir Arroyo, a senior at St. Thomas High School, the historian is Timothy Webb, a senior at Fort Lauderdale High School, and the treasurer is Mylik Walker, a freshman at Hallandale High School.
