Fort Lauderdale to host Neighbor Support Night Feb. 11

Citizens invited to learn about city programs and services

    By Monique J. Damiano

The City of Fort Lauderdale, in partnership with The Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Associations, will host Neighbor Support Night (NSN) on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. This free event, which focuses on strengthening community ties, elevating public spirit, and encouraging citizen engagement, will take place at City Hall, located at 100 N. Andrews Ave.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

NSN is an open house event that offers an opportunity for citizens to join together with Fort Lauderdale’s elected officials, city staff, neighborhood associations, and other citizens to communicate, collaborate, and learn about a wide variety of city programs, services, and activities, as well as opportunities to get involved in Fort Lauderdale’s community building process.

Neighbors will also be able to enjoy light refreshments, spend time with their children in the Kids Zone, register a bike, receive a free tree, learn CPR, sign up for city news and alerts, or visit the more than 30 displays presented by        city departments, divisions, and associations. Participants will include: City Manager’s Office; Budget/CIP & Grants; Finance; Fire-Rescue; Human Resources; Information Technology Services; Parks & Recreation; Police; Public Works; Sustainable Development; Transportation and Mobility; Executive Airport; Neighbor Support; Public Affairs; Recycling; Water, Sewer, and Utilities; Volunteer Services; 13th Street Alliance; Central Beach Alliance; Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Associations; and Lake Ridge Civic Association.

The City of Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire-Rescue Departments will have numerous specialized units and apparatus on display, including the Police Mounted Unit, SWAT Team, Bomb Squad, Motors Unit, Marine Unit, Fire-Rescue Hazardous Materials Response Team, Advanced Life Support Rescue Vehicle, and a Fire-Rescue Ladder Truck.

Neighbor Support Night is being presented by the City of Fort Lauderdale with support from the following partners: The Council of Fort Lauderdale Civic Associations; Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches; Penn House Productions; Sixth Star Entertainment; and Smoothie King.
