Earlier this month BTAN chapters nationwide engaged in activities to promote HIV testing and treatment mobilization efforts as the country marked National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. We open this issue with a round-up of events that took place in several cities that day.

We then continue our series on the recent graduates of the African American HIV University, this week focusing on Jeffrey Edwards-Knight, who founded the BTAN chapter in Charlotte, North Carolina.

We share two stories from Kaiser Health News that our readers are certainly following. Dr. Eugene McCray, director of the CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention, brings us up to speed on CDC’s forthcoming campaigns intended to help Black women understand their HIV risk and increase their awareness and uptake of PrEP. And now that Dr. Tom Price has been confirmed as HHS secretary, we should expect him to begin making policy changes soon, perhaps starting with these five items.

Finally we republish a piece Drs. Jonathan Mermin and McCray wrote for AIDS.gov about the recent article in MMWR on HIV among Black Americans.

    Yours in the struggle,

    Phill
