    Willie (Jimmy) Brown, Foundation President

On Dec. 16, 2016, the Kappa Foundation of Pompano and the Pompano Beach Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., hosted their annual Bicycle Drive to the deserving students at Charles Drew Elementary School in Pompano Beach.

The Brothers have been hosting a bicycle drive for over 20 years. It first started with the Brothers collecting used bicycles, repairing them and then giving them to kids throughout Pompano. Wanting to do more, the Brothers decided to partner with Charles Drew Elementary School and provide needy kids with a brand new bicycle along with helmet.

The school makes the decision on who is presented with the bikes based on need and special circumstances.

As the Bible reference “to whom much is given, much is required”, the Brothers decided to do even more. They invited the ladies of the Pompano Beach Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta to partner with them by providing dolls to many of the young girls at the school. This past Christmas, the brothers and Delta sisters provided over 100 bikes and dolls. The morning began with the members of both chapters reading Christmas stories to kindergarten and first grade students.

The students were then invited to the cafeteria where they participated in a Christmas party and sang Christmas carols. The students were even treated to a special step show presented by the Brothers of the Omicron Gamma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc., FAU. The event ended in hugs, laughter, tears of joy and many thanks to God, to whom all things are possible.
