Marvin Exantus, a rising senior at Fort Lauderdale High School’s pre-law magnet program, has made history by winning the prestigious Ninth Annual Gladiator International Mock Trial Competition in Atlanta. Exantus, who was one of 60 top-performing students from the US, Canada, China, and Australia, showcased his exceptional skills in the one-on-one competition, where participants receive no in-court support from teammates, coaches, or family.
This impressive achievement marks Exantus as the first winner from Broward County and the second from Florida in the competition’s history. Since 2015, the Gladiator competition has hosted over 300 talented students from 25 states and five countries, representing schools with notable county, state, and national championships.
Exantus’ victory earns him the coveted title of “Best in the World” and a life-size replica Gladiator helmet. His success is a testament to the dedication of his coaches, including Jennito Simon, Dan Katz, and Gabrielle Higgins, who have guided the team to multiple championships in recent years.
As Exantus looks to attend college and law school, he aspires to utilize his skills to make a positive impact in his community. As a first-generation college and law student, his accomplishment serves as an inspiration to his peers and a shining example of the talent and potential within Broward County’s student community. Congratulations!
