NBA Legend Alonzo Mourning and the Mourning Family Foundation have Partnered with Broward Schools, Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders Program to host 2020 Zo’s Youth Summit Groove

     FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Capital One and Pepsi Co have partnered with retired Miami Heat great Alonzo Mourning and the Mourning Family Foundation  to host the 2020 Zo’s Youth Summit Groove in Fort Lauderdale, FL,  on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Atlantic Technical College – Arthur Ashe campus located at 1701 NW 23rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The Mourning Family Foundation (MFF) has partnered with the Broward County Public Schools to host 500 students who participate in BCPS Mentoring Tomorrow Leaders program from several high schools from across Broward County.  Mourning will be joined by School Board Member, Vice -Chair, Dr. Rosalind Osgood, in welcoming the students to a full-day of motivational conversations with former athletes, sports commentators and authors along with engaging in topics that cover self-esteem, academic excellence, sports, financial lite-racy and more.

Students will be entertained by actor, comedian and host Darren “BIG BABY” Brand, cast member from season 7 of Nick Cannon’s, Wild N’ Out, and a member of the comedy group, “The Freestyle Funny Comedy Show”. The day will start with a general session where students will be greeted by the NBA Hall of Famer and Dr. Rosalind Osgood. Students will then transition into two separate mid-morning break-out sessions where they will participate in spirited conversation with guest panelists, before participating in an interactive and entertaining lunch program complete with sponsor activations from Pepsi and Capital One.  The day will close with a final general session where all panelists and the hosts will further address the participants concerns and layout a blueprint for success in school, personal life and citizenship.

Alonzo Mourning and Dr. Osgood will be joined by Tracy Wilson Mourning, Founder of Honey Shine, Inc. and co-founder of the Mourning Family Foundation; Personal Style Expert, and founder of the Wider Style, Morgan Wider;  Capital One Marketing Executive, Mike Friedman; columnist, television commentator and host of ESPN, Clinton Yates; Founder of ChampionShips, Inc, and former University of Florida basketball player 2008 – 2010 and University of Central Florida football player 2011 -2013 and  South Florida high school two-sport athletic standout Ray Shipman; former NFL linebacker David Holloway; and moderator, South Miami native, entrepreneur and co-host of Tech, Bytes & Beats, LaToya Stirrup.

This is the second consecutive year that MFF has hosted Zo’s Youth Summit Groove in Broward County, which will be the final Zo’s Winter Groove Youth Summit under the foundation.  MFF will officially transition operation into the Overtown Youth Center (OYC) as the official philanthropic endeavor of the NBA legend, Alonzo Mourning, that he founded in 2003 with real estate developer, Martin Margulies.  OYC serves the youth of Miami Dade County’s, Overtown community and provides academic tutoring, mentoring and various educational initiatives for boys and girls in the community.
