Submitted by Joe Ann Fletcher and Tamara Gant

May was a busy month for The North Broward County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated as the community service organization ushered in a new administration as well as a new group of members.

Earlene Striggles Horne was elected and installed as the new president. She is currently employed as a Manager in the Broward County Traffic Engineering Division. Horne has been providing community service in Broward County for over 25 years.

She serves on numerous community boards and currently serves as the Vice Chairman on Old Dillard Museum and OIC of South Florida board. Horne is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated where she currently serves as chairman of the International Reinstatement Task Force.

Horne has been a proud member of The North Broward County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated since 1998 and is excited about serving as President of this illustrious organization.

The NBC Chapter also welcomed six new members during an induction/luncheon ceremony held May 4 at The Doubletree by Hilton in Sunrise.  Those chosen to become new members of the chapter were: Tanya Davis, a Certified Public Accountant and co-owner of her own CPA firm; Tamara Gant, longtime South Florida radio personality; Delores McKinley, CPA and Manger of Internal Funds at Broward County Schools; Angela Messam, licensed Real Estate Agent and co-owner of Messam Construction; Dr. Audrey Miller, Assistant Professor at FIU – College of Nursing and Health Services and Trellanee Moore-Adderley, Financial Advisor for Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.

These six ladies, known as the BFFS (Beautiful Financially Fit Sisters), created a public service project that dealt with financial literacy for teenage girls at the Lauderhill YMCA that included sessions on credit, financial planning, stocks and bonds, entrepreneurship, taxes and more.  The BFFs said they were thrilled to be invited to join such an esteemed organization where they can continue to utilize their considerable talents and time to help continue the NBC Chapter’s charitable deeds in Broward County—including their Girls On the Move mentoring program and annual high school scholarship give-away.

Some of the upcoming events for The NBC Chapter include their summer retreat August 3, 2013 and their signature event, Denim and Diamonds Dancing for A Cause, Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013.
