On Saturday night, October 22, 2022, Oakland Park’s beloved daughter in the community celebrated her septuagenarian years with 100+ family members, friends, neighbors, and co-workers at the popular Pompano Beach Women’s Center.  Deborah Butler affectionately aka “Debra Ann” is known to always have time to lend a helping hand and share her positive, uplifting spirit with anyone facing a tragic loss, food insecurity, clothing – however, she can help.  Many guests commented on her tireless, ageless beauty and contagious smile as she happily made her grand entrance dancing to the DJ’s birthday melodies.  Tears welled as she entered the Center beautifully decorated in her favorite colors of teal and gold.

Deborah is the niece of Buck and Mary Beasley, the owners of the famously known “Buck and Mary” tavern in the heart of East Oakland Park’s African American neighborhood.  In its heyday during the 80s and 90s, it was the place to be, the place to unwind and have a good soul food meal, the place to dance to the DJ’s soulful beats until your feet could not take another step, and the place for a Friday night date or for family reunions.

Happy Birthday Deborah.  May you relish in the memories of your party for years to come!!
