Local-elected women’s group recognizes Representative Pritchett as a dedicated leader

MIAMI GARDENS, FL. – In recognition of her years of dedication to the empowerment of women and her service and leadership, State Representative Sharon Pritchett (D-Miami Gardens) was presented with the 2013 Service Award from the Women Elected to Municipal Government in Florida.

Women Elected to Municipal Government in Florida, or WEMG, is a voluntary association comprised of local-elected women. The organization encourages its members to fully engage in the policy-making process and extend its advocacy efforts towards those issues that impact municipal governments statewide and those of importance to women.

Representative Pritchett was an active member of the organization from 2003 through 2010, and while serving as a Councilmember on the City of Miami Gardens City Council, she served as the organization’s second vice president, first vice president, and in 2008, served as its president. Under her leadership, the organization increased its member participation and forged consensus around many issues pertaining to the status of women.

“Her compassionate, dedicated, and still humble spirit is a source of inspiration to all women elected to municipal government,” Felicia M. Brunson, current president of WEMG and vice mayor of the City of West Park, said of Representative Pritchett.

The 2013 Service Award was presented on Aug. 16 in Orlando during the group’s annual luncheon, which was held in conjunction with a meeting of the Florida League of Cities.

In accepting the award, Rep. Pritchett stressed the importance of supporting, uplifting and encouraging women of all walks of life and expressed her eagerness to make a significant and positive contribution to the constituents she represents in Florida House District 102 in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
