COCONUT CREEK, FL. – State Representative Christine Hunschofsky (D-Parkland) has been named the Legislator of the Year by the Broward County Council of PTAs/PTSAs. This honor recognizes Rep. Hunschofsky’s continued advocacy and leadership on issues impacting children and public education.

The award was presented at the Broward PTA’s Annual Awards Banquet in recognition of Rep. Hunschofsky’s efforts to:

Sponsor gun safety legislation, advocate for school safety, and oppose efforts to dismantle the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Act.

Eliminate unnecessary barriers for school counselors, expanding their ability to support Florida students through HB 753, which has passed the Legislature and is awaiting the Governor’s action.

Bring attention to student mental health needs through legislative advocacy and community outreach, including annual teen mental health town halls.

“Supporting families, strengthening public education, and making sure students have the resources they need to succeed will always be a priority for me,” said Representative Hunschofsky. “I’m grateful to the Broward PTA for this recognition and for all they do to advocate for students and families in our community.”

“Rep. Hunschofsky has been a strong advocate for children and public education throughout her career in the legislature. She has stood firm on gun safety and, in every session, works to strengthen these important protections. She also consistently prioritizes and brings attention to the mental health needs of our students,” said Bernie J. Kemp, President, Broward PTA. “The Broward County PTA is pleased to recognize her as our Legislator of the Year for 2025–2026.”
