Representative Dotie Joseph, Democrat for State House District 108, launches 2020 re-election campaign

MIAMI, FL – Representative Dotie Joseph, Democratic candidate for State House District 108, recently announced the launching of her 2020 re-election campaign. Representative Joseph re-presents one of the most culturally and economically diverse districts in the state. House District 108 also happens to be one of bluest districts – Democrats accounting for 68% of registered voters and every top-of-the-ticket Democratic candidate since 2010 has earned over 85% of the general election vote. Representative Joseph was first elected in 2018, after defeating two opponents in the Democratic primary election and handily winning the general election with 91.7% of the vote.

Representative Joseph issued the following statement: “As someone who was raised in the district,  I understand the unique needs of our community and am proud to represent District 108 to fight for the issues that matter to us. Since I’ve been elected, I have had the honor of being a champion for causes like seeking equal pay for women, quality education for our children, countering this Administration’s attacks on immigrants, protecting access to affordable housing, restoring voting rights for felons without regard to financial obligations, paid family leave, common-sense gun control, and criminal justice reform.”

In her first session as a freshman legislator, Representative Joseph was able to pass three laws: allowing victims of domestic violence to qualify for unemployment compensation, creating a commission to commemorate the hundred-year anniversary of the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment, which granted women the right to vote; and eliminating confusion in statutory required notices about flood insurance.

“In addition to my legislative work in Tallahassee, we’ve also tackled significant issues in the district, like food security, economic development, support for local businesses, and health education and access. I hope to once again earn the support of voters in District 108 so together we can continue the quest for a more unified and prosperous community.”
