Reviving the roots of our legacy

The Wellmaker-Hudson Family Reunion celebrated the life of Lena Wellmaker, April 26, 1870-July 31, 1982 and Joe Henry Hudson, June 22, 1850-June 9, 1933.

The guests were housed at the Grand Palms Hotel Spa & Golf Resort in Pembroke Pines, Fla. The celebration began on Friday evening with Meet & Greet followed by a program and banquet.

History was researched by Rose Mincey and Betty Nichols, information was compiled and shared with family members through Power Point video and hand booklet. The opening prayer and blessing of the food was done by Deacon Oliver Hart, Jr.

Living legends were presented, with music by D.J. Wayne Wright, playing in the background Take Me to the King by Tamela Mann and leading the procession was Queen Mother Lena Collier, Queen Mother Eva Byrd, Queen Mother Edna James, Queen Mother Erma Martin, Queen Mother Eltherene Well-maker, Queen Mother Sara Marshall and King Trummie Hudson. The escorts were Donald Marshall, III and Armiri Lassiter. Each legend was presented with and African print -scarf made by Gwendolyn Christian and a plaque. The evening was closed out with prayer by Deacon Trummie Hudson.

On Saturday morning we continued celebrating at the C.B. Smith Park in Pembroke Pines. We enjoyed the most delicious foods catered by the Cole-man Food Group and Nat’s Catering.

There were loads of fun and games conducted by Donald Marshall, II. Some of the games included tug-of-war, wheel barrel race, hula hoop contest, and bounce house just to name a few.  Popcorn and cotton candy were enjoyed by those who chose to indulge.

The committee members were Sara Marshall, chairperson, Rose Mincey co-chair/treasurer, Terri Tribble Decorations, Darrayl Mincey T-Shirts and tote bags and Donald Marshall, games.

The evening ended with a Pool Party with Old School Mu-sic provided by Charlie O’Neal. Closing prayer was done by Deacon Kenneth Roebuck.
