SCHOOL-BOARD-MEMBER-VICE-CHSchool Board Vice Chair Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall recognizes innovators and F.P.L. at the Second Annual Black-Tech Week   — At a recent monthly meeting of the School Board, Vice Chair Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall recognized innovators and organizers of Black Tech Week and Florida Power & Light (FPL) for their focus on the future of coding and programming to cultivate a more diverse environment for future generations. The event is a platform to recognize and support innovation and is the brain child of Felecia Hatcher and Derick Pearson, the creators of Code Fever, a nonprofit organization committed to educate students in low-income communities about coding and entrepreneurship. FPL was recognized for its outstanding accomplishments as the third largest electric company in the nation and for its solid involvement with the community, organizing a Power to Care Week and a Beautification Day at Van E. Blanton Elementary School. Receiving the award on behalf of the company were Althea Player and Irene R. White. “We appreciate the support of individuals like Felecia Hatcher and Derick Pearson and companies like FPL for their work on behalf of our children,” said Dr. Bendross-Mindingall.
