It was Not a Competition; it was a Celebration!” Hosted in partnership with the Dillard Center for the Arts Foundation, the Sound Check Band Showcase (Gym Battle) has become one of the most anticipated community events in South Florida. High school bands showcased a celebration of culture, education and recreational engagement at Nova Southeastern University on Saturday. Three world-class university marching bands illuminated collegiate pathways by presenting featured showcases: Florida Memorial, North Carolina A&T and Tuskegee Universities joined us this past Saturday, April 23, 2024, at 1 PM as we kicked off Yard Fest, which included our vendor market and live performances. In addition, the event included the College and Career Awareness Summit, an instrumental component of Sound Check and a recruitment fair for colleges, careers, vocations, military and DJs such as Marley Girls/Make Beats, Teddy E., WorldTour, and DJ Nasty among others. Our premiere event was the Gym Battle, featuring three world-class university bands that illuminated collegiate pathways and culture!
Sound Check ‘24 was an exciting, educational musical festival event featuring a YardFest and Gym Battle of the Bands. A “battle of the bands” typically involves multiple bands competing against each other, often with a panel of judges or audience voting to determine a winner. It’s a great way for bands to gain exposure, showcase their talent, and connect with music enthusiasts. If you missed out this year, mark your calendars for what is certain to be a greater Sound Check- Battle of the Bands 2025.
