Those who hurt children are subject to a punishment that far exceeds anything that you and I or our judicial system could punish them or sentence them to. It appears that we have lost all faith in the hope of accepting, respecting, and living with those who are different than we are. I’m talking about an evil difference; I’m speaking of a fear of an awakening to the realization that life is supposed to be open, just and abiding for all who breathe the same air and walk among God’s creations.

On this day in history and not just Black History but the history of the truth, a great man was shot down for his standing up for the rights of “the other American”. Fighting for our rights is nothing new to those who believe that our seats at the table of equal rights have been a long arduous fight that has required blood shedding and in a lot of situations, even death. Our blood has been sealed in the soil of the tortured history of this country and no matter the efforts of DeSantis and his trolls, and the warped souls of evil people, we can prevail.
Democracy was never absolute. It was a dream. A vision on the horizon that we continuously strived for. As I see politicians and people put their personal and individual needs and wants at the forefront of the greater good of democracy, I am sad to conclude that democracy is no longer understood to be our common dream for the U.S. and the world.
Both entities have survived and overcome what appeared sometimes as insurmountable odds and yet they both survived and are thriving. Recognizing the historical complexities of the individuals asserted to and who constructed doors of hope-for each did the impossible. They spoke out on behalf of the downtrodden, disenfranchised, and those who labored beneath the sting of a purposeful and manifested whip.
It is time to reclaim the “stay woke” narrative back to its original definition and intention because the thought that Florida is where wake goes to die is fake news.
Live free or die trying. This may become the anthem that we as Floridians must live by. Unfortunately, we have a governor and a legislative body that is doing everything they can to take away the rights to live openly and free with the dignity of your history.
There seems to be so much conversation about the number of students who leave Broward schools to attend charter schools, private or home education. A former Superintendent Cartwright couldn’t answer the question. She said the reduction in Broward’s enrollment was due to a decrease in the overall population of families in Broward. That falsehood was debunked by the Sun Sentinel. The truth is parent choice options have resulted in about 50 percent of Broward County Public Schools moving to a status of being under enrolled. Principals are not just competing with charter and private schools to keep their students. They also compete with other principals and schools in BCPS.
We can no longer attribute this gun violence to an economic status, ethnic background or geographical locations. People are using guns to kill people every day and everywhere. In the schools , streets, homes and even in the places of worship – there is no place safe!
A similar phrase, Don’t Say Black, is gaining traction in Broward Schools. As the new superintendent builds her new organizational chart, new positions are coming into focus, yet Black representation at top positions is fading fast.
Whatever you put into an effort, that is what the results produce. This analogy could be applied to several situations of today. Starting from the rained soaked, soggy political atmosphere of Broward County, to the hot air speech from President Joe Biden in Georgia and the Corona fog that seems to not only limit visions but shuts down the cognizance of supposed to be intelligent people.
