During Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October), The Broward County Chapter of Charmettes, ncorporated, organized under the direction of the chapter Vice President, Dr. Bennie Moultry, held the 2nd virtual Breast Cancer Awareness Breakfast “Be Aware of The Risk Factors of Cancer”. The purpose of this annual program is to support educating our community about the realities of this disease.

The Charmettes are a nationwide sisterhood of dedicated women committed to improving the quality of life within our communities through advocacy, education, service and support for cancer research.

In support of our organizational goals, Dr. Moultry invited an inspiring and awesome speaker, who also celebrates seventeen years of breast cancer survival, Mrs. Linda Long. Mrs. Long is not only a survivor, she also is the founder of Sojourner’s With Healing Hearts, Incorporated, a women of color non-profit breast cancer awareness organization. Mrs. Long was introduced by Palm Beach County Chapter member, Charmette Marion Stubbs. Mrs. Long went on to speak and strongly recommended getting your 1st mammogram in your 20s and 30s, do monthly self-examinations, and immediately seek professional help upon findings of differences. Mrs. Long expressed awareness of such differences as lumps, hard knots in breast, underarm swelling, red or dark discoloration, changes in size and shape, dimpling, scaly and or rashy, cloudy discharge from the nipple and constant pain in one spot. The importance of early detection was one of the main themes of the program.

The Charmettes of Broward County, Inc. President, Tara Morgan Johnson, concluded the awareness program with gracious closing remarks thanking our dynamic speaker, the charming program participants, and community guests.

Donations are always greatly appreciated! You can make donation checks payable to: Broward County Chapter of The Charmettes, Inc., PO Box 17684, Plantation, Florida 33317. Also, check us out on our website to keep up with current activities and scholarship openings at www.charmettesbroward.org
