The Power of the Sun

We move in life based on our relationship to the Sun. We know that it is morning because of the Sun rising. We know that it is night because of the Sun setting. Sun rays are needed for plant life and in order for photosynthesis to take place. The Earth’s full rotation around the Sun marks what we call a year, so time and seasons exist because of the Sun. The Sun is a key factor in how we live daily.

Although the Sun is a vital part of living, providing the fire element each day, some stay away from its healing benefits. As a race we have started passing down the thought process of it being “Too Hot” or staying out of the Sun so we don’t get “Too Black.” As a result we are staying away from a free, natural healing source. We need the Sun on our skin so that our largest organ can go through the complex process of creating Vitamin D for the body. Vitamin D is essential to proper development, including the development of the fetus.

Not only does Vitamin D get processed through our skin, our largest organ, but if our bodies are exposed to the Sun at the location of our other organs, those organs will receive additional benefits. Clothing, especially those made with synthetic or man made materials, prevent the Sun from penetrating the skin. Traveling into the past, I recall men not wearing a shirt for the most part growing up street basketball teams were identified as shirts vs. skins. It was such a cultural norm to be shirtless that businesses adopted a rule that patrons must have on a shirt and shoes to enter their establishment. During this time of bare chested freedom, our health as a whole was better. We didn’t hear of children with illnesses that the older people were being diagnosed with.

There is definitely a relationship between health and exposure to the Sun. Also the darker the skin, the more Sun is needed in order to be Vitamin D proficient. This is specifically due to the amount of sunlight that is absorbed into the body based on the pigmentation of the skin. The darker a person, the more time it takes to receive the sunlight into the body.

Even in the Northern states, where the Sun doesn’t appear as often in the South, there are enough opportunities for adequate Sun exposure because the body stores the Vitamin D when in excess. Some vitamins have to be replenished regularly while others store in the body and are utilized as needed. Vitamin D stored during the Summer can equip a person with the amount they need to get through a Winter with limited or no Sun exposure. In order to ensure a balance, we must be mindful of the need.

The Sun is the only light source that contains all of the colors of the spectrum. This is another reason why it is healing. Looking into the sun, also called sungazing, is very beneficial and cleansing to the entire body. Our eyes have been conditioned to accept light via light bulbs, screens, and other projection devices that fill our bodies with particular colors of the natural spectrum thus leaving us with an imbalance. Some efficient homes are designed to invite the Sunlight into the space to avoid using artificial light sources.

The Sun represents life, vitality, fire, regeneration, and transformation. Each day is anew. This energy is necessary for this existence. We need the Vital Mineral D (i.e. vitamin D) that the Sun naturally gives to us each day for proper regeneration of our bodies. The synthetic source of Vitamin D, as with the lightbulbs, will not give the same results as the natural. It is time to accept the energy of the Sun, knowing of all of its benefits, instead of running from it! The Sun is Life!
