    Ain’t That A VHIT

    By Von C. Howard

“I’ve learned that every door that closes leads to one that opens, if you have the faith to walk toward it.”
    — Maya Angelou

Every now and then, life presents you with a moment, quiet or loud, when the door opens. It might not come with fanfare, and it rarely waits for you to be ready. But when it does, you feel it deep in your spirit. It’s that unmistakable nudge telling you, “This is your time.”

I’ve learned that doors don’t always open the way we expect. Sometimes they’re pushed wide open through blessings and answered prayers. Other times, they creak open after seasons of struggle, doubt, or discomfort. Yet truth be told, there have been times when I stood in front of an open door, hesitant, unsure if I had what it took to walk through.

However, here’s what life continues to teach me: growth is never found in hesitation. Every time I’ve chosen to step forward, despite fear, uncertainty, or imperfection, I’ve discovered new levels of purpose, peace, and strength.

When the door opens in your career, it might not always look like a promotion. Sometimes it’s an opportunity that challenges your confidence or stretches your capacity to lead. I’ve experienced that personally in my own professional journey, where God has placed me in rooms not because I was the most qualified, but because I was willing to show up and do the work. And each time, I’ve realized that elevation requires both faith and follow-through.

When the door opens in your relationships, it may call for forgiveness, honesty, or letting go. Growth in love, whether it’s with your spouse, children, friends, or community, means being bold enough to communicate, to heal, and to value yourself and others in healthy ways. Some doors lead to reconciliation, and others lead to release. Either way, both are lessons in love and alignment.

Spiritually, when the door opens, it’s often less visible and more internal. It’s that divine whisper saying, “You’ve been called to more.” There have been times when I didn’t understand the season I was in, but I knew I couldn’t stay where I was. And every time I walked through a spiritual door, God met me with clarity on the other side.

And socially, within our community, it’s the same truth. Every door that opens is a chance to serve, to give, to build something that outlasts us. When I step into new spaces to uplift others, I see that my purpose isn’t just about my progress, it’s about using my platform to help someone else believe that their door will open too.

The older I get, the more I understand that open doors are not always comfortable. They challenge us to evolve. They demand humility and courage at the same time. But they are also where purpose lives.

So, to anyone standing at the threshold of a new opportunity, a new season, or even a new version of yourself, don’t overthink it. Walk through. You may not have all the answers, but you have what it takes.

Because when the door opens, it’s not just an invitation, it’s affirmation. It’s a reminder that your preparation met God’s timing.

And on the other side of that door is not just something better, it’s someone better.

    You.
