Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority presents 2013 Top Hat Salute to Women of Achievement

Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority presents 2013 Top Hat Salute to Women of Achievement. Outstanding Community Leaders were honored during Women’s History Month.

Submitted by Dr. Dierdre Satterwhite Wilson and Ruthie Poole-Glass

On behalf of Zeta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the President JoeAnn Fletcher opened a “Get Acquainted Tea” on Feb. 24, 2013, at the IL Laguana Hotel, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with the Catering Manager Jessica Walcott, preparing a dynamic entrance overlooking the Intercostal waterway. Twenty -seven selected women of achievement attended the informational afternoon Tea Program where an ice breaker was essential in introducing the Top Hat honorees.

The open-ended discussion was executed to motivate personal thoughts and feelings about themselves in hypothetical situations. To further acquaint the ladies with each other, a friendly contest was facilitated among table participants, as well as door prizes awarded to “Top Winners”. To “Top it Off” individually-posed and candid photos were taken throughout the entire event. Those present did partake, an assortment of scrumptious, light refreshments and a traditional pink tea served between the program activities.

    Segment II:  Roundtable Discussion

A panel of healthcare experts provided information to pertinent questions posed by Zeta Rho Omega Chapter members and other audience participants. The topics of discussion were about dieting, preventive care, common health issues, and hereditary issues. The panelists consisted of Dr. Ivonne Reynolds, OB/GYN, Dr. Fern Bent-Taisenchoy, OB/GYN, Dr. Maxine Hamilton, Internist, Dr. Debrena Allen, Internist, Dr. Adrelia Allen, Pharmacist, June Small, Registered Dietitian, and BeNisa Forte – Personal Trainer. The roundtable topics included discussions on Breast and cervical cancer, menopause and sexuality, obesity, physical fitness, dementia and Alzheimer’s and general healthcare.

    Segment III: Top Hat Tea

Zeta Rho Omega’s 5th Annual Top Hat Salute to Women of Achievement was quite a success!  More than 400 attendees supported the affair at the Westin Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. on March 9.

Fundraising Chair Annette Johnson-Hurry and Co-Chairs Odessa Striggles Bennett, Earlene Striggles Horne, Gail Bouie Ward and Barbara Sutton Williams worked diligently to promote professional experts to speak on relevant topics that provide current information on healthcare, business matters, entrepreneurships and law, education and religion, marketing and communication, as well as governmental affairs.

The 27 women were recognized for their work and contributions in the Broward Community. The free services in which they provide to the citizens help them to live healthier lifestyles and provide them with routine care.

For these reasons, these women join the ranks of “Top Hat Salute to Women of Achievement.” “It is because of women like these who make a difference in the lives of others. This array of self-motivated, determined unselfish women who reside or work in the Broward County area, and they all have one thing in common, and that is, “providing service to all man-kind.”
