     “We applaud the George W. Bush Institute for being visionaries in education, and for their steadfast advocacy for smart policies that keep us accountable to our next generation,” said Meyer, who serves on the Texas House Committee on Public Education. “There’s no doubt that leaders across our state and our nation should make providing quality education for every child a legacy because it’s an issue that impacts our families, our communities and our future.”

     As we go through this hurricane, let’s be mindful that when we ask and pray that we’re not placing our burdens and crisis on others. For it is our cross to bear – whatever it is that God has for us is for us. And God will make away! He has done it before, He’s doing it now and He will do it again.

     Three courageous and caring City of Hollywood residents banded together and worked to ensure that the remains of these individuals were finally treated with honor and decency. Their efforts were successful, and in1986 a monument was erected to restore dignity to those whose graves were disturbed. That same year, City officials renamed the grounds West Lawn Cemetery.

Ever since delegates settled on a three-fifths compromise, African Americans have been a quandary for America’s political system. The power of the African American voting bloc is unparalleled. Unlike any other demographic group, it has the capacity to sway the outcome of most national or state elections.
