Local resident and homeowner George W. Brennen celebrates his 100th birthday with his family and friends.
He was born in Sylvania, Georgia, May 20th, but moved to Pompano in his teen years and then Ft. Lauderdale in 1940. He was always a hard worker and a humble man. He valued being able to do for himself and others. He strove to care for his mother, Daisy Samuel, and seven (7) younger sisters. He started out farming as a sharecropper, then for the next 25 years he worked at Broward Marine Boat Yard where Frank Denison was the owner. In 1967 he started farming for himself and he was blessed to provide work for so many families. One of his heart’s desires was to have children and to send them to college. He succeeded and his life story is one of success. He’s retired now with many fond memories including being a minister in God’s vineyard.
Today he is grateful that in 1942 he married his beautiful wife of 68 years, the late Dorothy Greene and they had nine daughters (one deceased) and two sons along with one adopted son, and one daughter he had prior to the union. Several of his children and grandchildren have college degrees and they are most appreciative of parents’ and grandparents’ nurturing.
What a milestone this is for Minister Brennen and his family so they will be gathering from the north, east, south, and west, to help him celebrate and give God praise. When asked why he believes he lived this long, he responded: because “I believed in God.”
