Every 10 years, elected leaders in Florida are tasked with redrawing jurisdictional boundaries for local, state, and federal elections to reflect the state’s population shifts. Unfortunately, history has shown that politicians sometimes manipulate redistricting to expand or protect their own power — often to the detriment of the minority political party, marginalized populations, and often, Black, and brown communities.

Well, guess what? Black politicos did register millions of votes but around 50% of new registered voters in some states didn’t even go to the polls. They didn’t go to the polls because “vote for the Black” was not enough motivation or inspiration for conscious Blacks to blindly vote for any candidate, of any political party, and for candidates of any race or ethnic identity.

Nearly nine decades ago, former President Franklin D. Roosevelt uttered these famous words, “The Only Thing We Have To Fear Is Fear Itself.” Now, it’s not just fear, but rather it’s fear of a “Mad Man,” Putin. Consequently  America and its NATO Alliances are held hostage by Putin threats to NUKE Ukraine; thus, also  causing  fear of the inevitable, World War III.

Congressman Charlie Crist, (D) Florida, has proposed legislation to step up life-saving research and loan repayment for those joining the fight against Sickle Cell Disease. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is the result of genetic mutation that reduces the ability of blood cells to transport oxygen throughout the body. Considered a childhood disease where individuals did not survive until adulthood, patients are now living longer and are at high risk because of the lack of research. There are approximately 100,000 people living with sickle cell disease in the United States, the overwhelming majority of whom are Black Americans.
