     However, of the 24 candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for president, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is the only one that has agreed to address key influencers of the African American community — the Black Press of America — at the National Newspaper Publishers Association’s (NNPA) annual convention later this month in Cincinnati, Ohio.

   First a book, then a movie, and now NASA’s “Hidden Figures” are being honored with a street outside the government organization’s D.C. headquarters.

      A host of supporters including family, friends, counselors, advisors and mentors gathered to cheer on and celebrate a group of students for overcoming insurmountable odds to reach an academic milestone. ChildNet held its annual Broward County Transitional Independent Living (TIL) Graduation Celebration on June 13 at Broward College Central Campus, in Bailey Hall.

The Miami Dolphins rookie class alongside Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) board members, Dolphins staff, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center representatives and officers of the Broward Sheriff’s Office participated in a #DolphinsHuddlefor100 service project for Rebuilding Together Broward to beautify the home of cancer fighter Lena Mackeroy on Tuesday, June 11.

      The three students—Tyla Barnes from Hampton University, Miana Massey from Howard University and Emani Nichols from Morehouse College—will take part in an immersive program under Publisher Janis L. Ware and Editor-In-Chief Marshall A. Latimore that will provide the students with opportunities to file real stories as well as work alongside professional journalists and editors from The Atlanta Voice.

The NAACP prepares to mobilize thousands of millennials and youth activists within the Black community at the upcoming 110th National Convention, taking place in Detroit, Michigan from July 20 to 24. The convention will feature a wide variety of events and workshops that will empower the leaders of tomorrow to create a better world for all people to thrive.

     McGovern is the Florida Department of Health in Broward County’s Drowning Prevention Program Manager and her mission is to save as many lives as possible through education. Her passion about water safety stems from the personal pain she experienced on August 3rd, 2009 when she found her 19-month-old daughter Edna Mae floating face-up in the pool the child had been playing in just hours earlier. “Em” died eight days later on August 11th.

On June 15, 2019, the Sistrunk Historical Organization held their Night of Success and Endless Opportunities Scholarship Gala at the Urban League Empowerment Center.
