       As the calendar turns toward 2025, The Carrie Meek Foundation is laying the groundwork for an expansive future that honors the legacy of Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek while addressing the evolving needs of Miami-Dade County’s communities. From workforce development in aviation to community-based safety initiatives, the foundation is focused on building sustainable, impactful solutions for the region’s Black and brown neighborhoods.

        In a revealing new report titled “Colleagues in Crisis,” Wysa, a provider of AI-driven mental health support, has uncovered troubling insights into the mental health challenges facing American workers. Based on a 2024 survey of over 2,000 U.S. employees, the report reveals that mental health struggles are not only prevalent but also worsening, with many workers feeling unsupported by their employers.

       While completing his bus route, Marcelin noticed a visually impaired gentleman struggling to navigate the chaotic eight lane intersection.      Increasingly, the source of that pollution is the growing number of liquefied methane gas (commonly referred to as LNG) facilities in the region. Freeport LNG, in Oldham’s town, is the third largest LNG export terminal by capacity in the country. The largest is Sabine Pass LNG, just a few hours along the coast from Freeport. That facility sits just over the Louisiana border from Port Arthur, TX – which is also home to Port Arthur LNG, currently under construction.
