“As a mother and a former educator, I was extremely disappointed to learn that Kamilah Campbell’s SAT score is being challenged after she showed marked improvement in the second exam. It is my understanding that the first test that she took was a practice round for which she had not prepared. Before taking the second test, however, she spent a significant amount of time studying and took an SAT prep course. Her hard work and diligence paid off and she increased her score by about 300 points.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has granted executive clemency to Cyntoia Brown, who has been serving a life sentence for a murder she committed when she was 16 years old. Brown’s cause was championed by a number of celebrities, including Rihanna.
Lisa Thomas-McMillan and her husband Freddie have just opened a new type of restaurant in Escambia County that feeds people whether they have any money or not. It was 1995 and Lisa was a cashier at a local Walmart. One of her customers had no money to buy the groceries she needed. After speaking with the lady for a few minutes, she realized there were many others who were in the same boat.
B.L.A.C.K. 2 Life has worked tirelessly this past year enacting their mission across the globe, but they need more volunteers and financial support. Since the organization’s founding in 2017, B2L has given out over 30,000 free books to children in 18 cities in 14 states.

Fort Lauderdale Art and Design week is a festival designed to showcase arts and culture within the greater Fort Lauderdale area. Art Fort Lauderdale is going on its 3rd year, taking place on the international waterways. In a joint effort to connect communities through the arts, the Sistrunk a Fair was created.
During this week of Kwanzaa celebrations, we have connected with The Pride Center, a gay and lesbian community center, the Westside Gazette, a Black-owned newspaper, New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Stonewall National Museum, BTAN, and the World AIDS Museum. We are grateful for the collaboration and commitment to this week of Kwanzaa Celebrations.
The prison sentences for Cyntoia Brown and Donald Trump’s criminal cronies may seem unrelated, but they tell the same story
The milestone was historic as he became the eldest student to receive a graduate degree during a fall commencement at the school and the oldest Black person to ever receive a LSU degree.
“From 1882 to 1986, Congress failed to pass anti-lynching legislation when it had an opportunity 200 times. Today, by passing this bill we have offered some long overdue justice and recognition to the victims of lynching crimes,” said Senator Harris.
