The National Park Foundation, the charity arm of the park service, bought the home from the King Center for $1.9 million. Money for the purchase came from private gifts by anonymous donors, and the home was turned over to the National Park Service on Nov. 27, Will Shafroth, the foundation president, said on Friday. Lisa Thomas-McMillan and her husband Freddie have just opened a new type of restaurant in Escambia County that feeds people whether they have any money or not. It was 1995 and Lisa was a cashier at a local Walmart. One of her customers had no money to buy the groceries she needed. After speaking with the lady for a few minutes, she realized there were many others who were in the same boat.
