  Dr. Frederick S. Humphries, Sr., epitomized the definition of an influencer. His tenure as the president of Florida A&M University was a whirlwind of academic, social, and civil rights progress that would come to define Black exceptionalism. He singlehandedly dismantled the stereotypes surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities while elevating academic standards, equipping thousands of students with the tools to succeed in the world. While the Fred Humphries “Golden Era” will be hard to duplicate, his statue is a fitting reminder that “Excellence with Caring” is not a symbol; it is a mandate to stay in the fight to preserve the legacy.

       BROWARD COUNTY, FL — South Broward Alumnae Chapter (SBAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. invites you to its International Day of the Girl Child event titled “Flourish & Fly”, a FREE Empowerment Workshop  for girls, ages 11-17. Our STRONG GIRLS, STRONG WORLD workshop will take place at McArthur High School,6501 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, Florida 33024 on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

   Ms. Geneva Henry, a career Special Education Teacher, was named Parkridge Elementary School, Deerfield Beach,  2025-26 Teacher of the Year. Principal Samantha Whitehead convened a staff meeting in the school’s library to ensure the attendance of all stakeholders,  including Ms. Henry’s immediate family. A graduate of Alabama State University in Montgomery, the 32- year veteran educator, was surprised and shocked but extremely grateful to have such a prestigious honor bestowed upon her.

           From the beginning of time, Black men have been leaders. In Africa, before we were scattered across the globe, men guided villages, protected families, taught children, and resolved disputes. Leadership wasn’t about titles; it was about presence. It was about being there, showing up, and ensuring the people were cared for. That same responsibility rests on us now in the 21st century.  Â
