CareerSource Broward (CSBD), providing innovative employment solutions and quality workforce services to businesses and individuals in Broward County, has launched its 2023 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). More than 1,000 students, a record high for CSBD, participated in the SYEP three-day employability skills workshop that took place at Dillard High School, Pompano Beach High School and Hallandale Beach High School.

The new leadership team will succeed Steven Sonberg, who has served as Managing Partner since 2008 and will step down after the end of the first quarter in 2024, concluding a 16-year term.
What goes unrecognized often is how Black colleges furthered the musical experience of America. During the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s Black college campuses were the musical hubs of Black music. Without the access to the large venues that white musicians enjoyed there were basically only two options. The first option was to play the “Chitlin’ Circuit,” which was a string of small clubs owned by Blacks. Some were graduated barns that might be leaky if it was raining outside. There were limited amenities, but during the time where there weren’t many options, some of the top acts would frequent these venues as they were the social center of Black music culture.

The Children’s Harbor 10th Annual Harbor Lights Gala raised more than $180,000 for the non-profit agency that strengthens families in the community while providing safe shelter and support to teens in foster care so that they may grow into healthy, educated, and productive adults.

Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., has announced Allyson L. Watson, Ph.D., as provost/vice president for Academic Affairs. Watson, who came to FAMU in 2019 as dean of the College of Education, has served as interim provost/vice president for Academic Affairs since December 2022.
