Eight students from The College Academy at Broward College, a dual-enrollment high school offered in partnership with Broward County Public Schoos (BCPS), have been named National QuestBridge Scholars. This prestigious recognition connects high-achieving high school seniors with leading colleges and universities across the nation, providing a full four-year scholarship valued at more than $300,000.

       We’re smiling with pride as our National Achievers Society (NAS) scholars brought home major wins at this year’s Florida Education Fund Statewide Brain Bowl Competition! These brilliant minds showed up, showed out, and proved the power of preparation, passion, and academic excellence.

       The Lambda Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  (“LAA”) and the Frances J. Bright Woman’s Club Charitable Foundation, Inc. (“FJB”) are joining forces to conduct street cleanup on the 10th Avenue corridor and NW 2nd Street in Delray Beach, Florida.  The groups will convene on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 7:30 am at Pompey Park located at 1101 NW 2nd Street, Delray Beach, FL to obtain bags, gloves, and trash grabbers.   LAA and FJB seek to improve the overall cleanliness and health of the community by removing debris, litter, and trash from the streets and public spaces.

Yvette N. Harris, the creator and chief executive of Harris Public Relations, received the esteemed Arts and Cultural Tourism Award during the 2025 Serving the Arts Awards. This accolade was given by the Arts & Business Council of Miami in collaboration with the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Department.

       Eleven Black women belong to the elite sorority of Oscar winners, including Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Mo’Nique, Jennifer Hudson, and Regina King. This group of extraordinary actresses owes a debt to Fredi Washington, who paved the way for Black women in Hollywood. In 1921, amidst the burgeoning Harlem Renaissance, Fredi, a recent arrival from Savannah, joined the “Happy Honeysuckles” of Shuffle Along, Broadway’s first Black-led show. To become a “Honeysuckle,” one had to pass the discriminatory “Brown paper bag test.” Josephine Baker barely passed and endured teasing for her ebony complexion. Fredi stood up for her, and they became lifelong friends.
