Herschel Walker, bless his soul, took it upon himself to reveal to Republican voters and white supremacists that he’s the most unfit candidate chosen by Trump to run for office. To demonstrate his unfitness, as well as level of literacy, for office, he delivered a monologue at a rally about vampires and werewolves. This monologue made far less sense than Trump’s continued beliefs of a stolen 2020 presidential.
Blacks and Midterm Madness
A lot of good news came out of this month’s elections—and enough bad news to remind us that we can never let our guard down when freedom and democracy are at stake. This year, democracy itself was on the ballot, and voters made an important down payment on its future.
Pundits predicted that Democrats during the 2021 midterm elections would suffer a blood bath as a results of voters’ wrath. However, to their surprise, the wrath of voters came with a doubled edged sword.
My people still don’t get it. How long will African Americans continue to be the first to endorse, the first to contribute and the very last to benefit from being the most loyal base of voters in the United States of America’s history.
The 2022 mid-term election will be considered historical for Democrats, because in the Senate, there was no seats loss and they still are in power. The Republicans were expecting a red wave of political power, and the Democrats were going to lose the Senate and 15 to 20 seats in the House. The political experts and the political pundits were wrong, and President Biden fooled the media and America.
As the dust settles on the midterm elections and the warnings of a “Red Wave” evaporate, it’s time to take a deep breath and take stock of what we’ve learned. There are many takeaways from the elections this year – and here are a few that top the list for me.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team works tirelessly to link displaced community members with the social services necessary to start anew and get back on their feet. Focused on providing care and assistance, the team has at least one specialist in every BSO district working full-time to support and assist these individuals.
America’s democracy, as imperfect as it has been throughout its history, remains a banner for freedom and liberty for people throughout the world. The mantra that extols democracy’s virtuous tenets reads, “the pendulum of democracy swings ever so slowly towards a more perfect Union.” Yet, it’s the very attempts to nudge this pendulum forward and more hastily that triggers democracy’s greatest attacks.
