Many of us may already be aware that when it comes to heart disease in the U.S., Black, African American, and Afro-Caribbean communities are disproportionately affected compared to other racial and ethnic groups.* But did you know about three to four percent of African Americans carry a mutation in the TTR gene (V122I) that makes it more likely that they may develop ATTR-CM, however not all carriers develop the disease. ATTR-CM gets worse over time, which is why early diagnosis and management are so important.

Please go to the polls or vote in other ways but go vote. I don’t care who you vote for, but it is no secret that some politicians have done everything they could to suppress your votes and get you to stay at home.
For 20 years, I have not touched or smoked weed or herb, because I felt I did not need it. As a young man in high school I tried it, but I preferred drinking beer. Once I got in college, I enjoyed marijuana tremendously. I went to Howard University, and it was during 1969 to 1973, and women took birth control pills, and they wore no bras.
As you scan this title, I want you to immediately focus on Sally Hemings a helpless Black stave girl. At the age of just fourteen, she became the property of former president Thomas Jefferson. Sally penned down and repeatedly raped by Jefferson whenever he wanted survived. Saily impregnated, gave birth to six children. No one came to her aid because she was mere property.
Dirty tricks like this make me sick. And as we get closer to this year’s midterms, civil rights leaders are warning that we’re likely to see more of them. The Far Right is waging a war on Black voters, and disinformation is among its favorite weapons. Another one is passing laws to make it harder for Black citizens to vote. The Brennan Center at NYU keeps track of these efforts. The legal scholars their report that since 2020, lawmakers in 49 states have introduced more than 400 bills that would make it harder to vote. This midterm election is the first nationwide election since that massive voter suppression campaign started, and we have one way to fight it: massive voter mobilization.
But I can’t. I cannot let the increased racist rhetoric in American politics go unchecked.
Cold cases, by their very name, are crimes that remain unsolved. Investigating these cases takes patience, tenacity and innovative thinking. At the Broward Sheriff’s Office, unsolved crimes will never be placed on the shelf or forgotten, and the passage of time will not delay our quest for justice.
Emmett Till was born on July 25, 1941, and was murdered August 28, 1955. Emmett,as most Americans know, was violently tortured and murdered in Money, Mississippi for allegedly whistling at a married, White woman named Carolyn Bryant. This rule was a long held racial taboo in the Southern States. Black males were not allowed to even look at White women in their eyes in public let alone whistle at them or around them. Such racist, classist unjust social rules were a result of the terrible slavery system and were passed down as the Jim Crow racist injustice system of the South. Being born and raised in Chicago, Till wasn’t accustomed to such public social rules. Although racist outliers existed against Blacks in Chicago, they were not as rigid and as violently enforced as in the Southern States.

The recent hurricane named Ian and the January 6, 2020 insurrection were both corollaries to one another. Consequently, they offer an excellent opportunity to examine their corollaries. Thus, one could conclude that hurricanes are dangerous land destructive, and violent/murderous insurrections are its normal corollary. However, it’s important to be aware of distinct causes, purposes as well as differences between these phenomena.
