The Gantt Report
Finally, a fair state attorney
By Lucius Gantt
Thank God for Baltimore Stateâs Attorney Marilyn Mosby. She is a hero to me but we really donât need heroes. I thank God for sending us a Black public servant that is not afraid to do the job she is supposed to do!
Law enforcers and others have been directly or indirectly involved in the murders, beatings, choking of people of color for hundreds of years. Donât act like youâve never heard of lawmen led lynch mobs that resulted in Black men hanging from trees back in the day!
At last, we have a Black woman that is risking her job, jeopardizing her career and perhaps putting her own life in danger by merely doing what she is being paid tax dollars to do.
Freddie Gray would be alive and no officers would be facing murder charges if only one law man had provided Freddie Gray with the medic and medical attention that he asked for multiple times.
So what if some of the officers charged with manslaughter and other crimes are Black?
If it were up to me, the Black officers that helped commit or refused to stop the crimes done under color of law that killed Freddie Gray should get more jail time and punishment than anybody involved!
This Django Unchained idea that the best way to get ahead is to love your enemies more than you love yourself and your biological and extended family members must be discarded.
Youâre not dead but no matter where you live or where you work there are people that look like you that donât care what happens to you.
Not too many Caucasians read The Gantt Report but every week a modern day Buckwheat or Kingfish will run to tell someone that âLucius wrote about devilsâ!
Every day you turn on the TV some negro comes on to throw shade on a Black person! They donât like the President, they donât like Mayweather, they donât like Atlanta Housewives, They donât like Tyler Perry, they donât like Creflo Dollar!
Ok, even Iâm not fond of some people of African descent but I donât use my preferences or non-preferences to keep a job, keep a title or get a come up!
I am a writer. I do my job. We all should do the job we were hired to do, took an oath to do or volunteered to do.
Can you be like Baltimore Stateâs Attorney Marilyn Mosby? If youâre a police person canât you just protect and serve? If youâre a lawyer can you just fight for your clients in a court room instead of taking whatever plea or settlement that is offered to you? Teachers, can you just do a good bit of teaching? Can we all just contribute to a better society by doing whatever job we have to do?
Every city, no most cities, donât have a State Attorney like Marilyn Mosby. Donât take my word for it. Tell me in what city is there a State Attorney that will oppose misconduct by a law enforcer, prosecute someone for hurting or killing a Black person and not over-charge or seek exaggerated sentences for Black suspects?
The answer is nowhere! You canât find a State Attorney like Marilyn Mosby in Hollywood!
Thank God for Baltimore Stateâs Attorney Marilyn Mosby.
