On May 17, 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education ruled unanimously that racial segregation of children in public schools was unconstitutional. In this lawsuit, Brown claimed that schools for Black children were not equal to the White schools, and that segregation violated the 14th Amendment, which holds that no state can “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

However, we, as African Americans, have to take extra precautions because we are being affected at a disproportionate rate by the virus.
This week our Florida governor decided to reopen parks for walking and running, and even golf courses. However, playgrounds, basketball, and tennis courts are closed until further notice.
This is going to be a difficult Mother’s Day since we cannot go out. However, this should be the Mother’s Day that we will do the most for our mothers and mother figures.
It reminds me that even though there is a national pandemic going on God is still in control and makes things beautiful.
During this time we might be tempted to eat food that is not very good for our health. Good nutrition is important for our health, particularly in times when the immune system might need to fight back.
I also said that in the meantime they should enjoy their time with their family and keep up the good work.
To stay active you can workout at home, walk in your neighborhood, or ride your bike. Anything to stay active is great for health.
So the next day I was determined to get my story. As I was taking precaution my grandmother and I drove to a church called ‘Tabernacle of Faith & praise’; they were giving away food every Saturday at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and these lovely ladies let me take their photo with the food bags that they were giving out.
This week Broward County made it mandatory to wear a face mask in stores, gas stations, and while riding public transportation, etc. Anyone outside their home must wear something covering their mouth and nose.
