BROWARD COUNTY, FL  Today, Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil released a statement endorsing Sheriff Gregory Tony. Sheriff McNeil, the first Black sheriff of Leon County, was also formerly Tallahassee Chief of Police when Tony applied to be a member of the local police department in 2003.

“I have watched Sheriff Tony’s career flourish from afar, and have seen firsthand the incredible job he has done as the leader of his community’s law enforcement, improving the department’s readiness and taking on issues of abuse and excessive force with courage,” said Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil. “I know that change is hard, and how much opposition there can be from those who would like to see you fail. The people of Broward County are lucky to have such a terrific person in charge of making their community safer; he has my full support.”
