On Tuesday, July 2, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law filed a complaint against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (“CFPB”) in order to compel documents from the CFPB that were granted to the Lawyers’ Committee through the Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). The documents related to the CFPB’s decision to roll back the 2017 Payday Loan Rule, which regulates payday loans, auto title loans, and other types of expensive loans aimed at low-income communities of color with poor credit.

The woman who oversaw Florida’s far-reaching effort to educate residents on the 2000 census said she was “really surprised” the state has not yet established the committee for next year’s census — and is concerned it might be too late.

     For the past few months I have had the privilege of engaging voters and elected officials in conversations about voting, particularly the elevated warnings regarding foreign interference in our next presidential election.
