   The HBCU Combine, held at the New Orleans Saints’ Ochsner Sports Performance Center, exposed 45 prospects from dozens of Black colleges across the country to all 32 NFL teams.

        Presidents’ Day, traditionally a celebration of the leaders who have shaped the United States, carries a complex and often painful significance for the Black community. While it offers an opportunity to reflect on presidential legacies, it also necessitates a critical examination of the systemic injustices perpetuated by many of these leaders.

The initiative comes as Black consumers are projected to spend nearly $2 trillion by 2030, according to the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility. NAACP President Derrick Johnson said that corporations rejecting multiculturalism are putting themselves at a disadvantage in a changing economy.

 “History Fort Lauderdale invites the community to join us for the opening of ‘Roots of Resilience: The Journey of Black Broward,’ a momentous occasion celebrating the enduring spirit, achievements and legacy of Broward County’s African American community,” said Patricia Zeiler, executive director of History Fort Lauderdale. “This informative exhibit offers an opportunity to reflect on the profound impact our diverse residents have made through the generations and amplifies the voices and experiences that have shaped our local history.”

       New reserch from the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) finds that in just one year – 2022 – cash-strapped borrowers took out over 20 million predatory loans totaling nearly $8.6 billion. The triple-digit annual percentage rates (APRs) and high costs attached to these loans – whether payday, single-payment or installment loans – drained more than $2.4 billion in fees from low-income borrowers.

The six-part series, executive produced by Dawn Porter, premieres Tuesday, February 25, with two episodes airing back-to-back on HBO. All six episodes will be available to stream on Max.
