     Power is the reason of how the Republicans stay ahead, and breaking a law is not a problem. In 2023, the Republicans are winning elections before the first vote is cast, because of gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is the process of redrawing the lines of a state’s congressional district. This happens every ten years because gerrymandering disenfranchises districts before the vote.

In 1988, Operation Ranch Hand scientist and Air Force researcher Dr. James Clary wrote to Senator Tom Daschle that “when we initiated the herbicide program in the 1960s, we were aware of the potential for damage due to dioxin contamination in the herbicide. However, none of us were overly concerned because the material was to be used on the enemy. We never considered a scenario in which our personnel would become contaminated with the herbicide.”

     It was that life that the Biden administration protected for years to come with the announcement last week that it was cancelling oil and gas drilling leases in the 19.6-million-acre Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and moving to prohibit drilling in another 13 million acres of protected lands bordering the refuge.

     On August 28, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced a $2.7 billion judgment against major members of this industry. An order now awaiting federal court approval would also ban these firms from telemarketing credit repair services for 10 years for illegal actions dating back as far as 2016.

     As a child, Nile Price spent more time in the hospital than out as he received treatment for sickle cell anemia. He was given an endless supply of movies to watch while in the hospital, which sparked his interest in filmmaking. His film “For the Moon” will be shown during the Afrikana Film Festival on Sept. 16. Nile Price uncovered his passion for film from a hospital bed.

Pullman Porters/Brotherhood for Sleeping Car Porters ushered in the origin of the Black Middle Class. According to the History Channel,  “The first Pullman porter began working aboard the sleeper cars around 1867, and quickly became a fixture of the company’s sought-after traveling experience…Pullman recruited only Black men, many of them former slave states, to work as porters. Their job was to lug baggage, shine shoes, set up and clean the sleeping berths…” George Pullman, the founder, sold fully pampered travel perfection to the White passengers.
