The 114th NAACP National Convention (7/26-8/1) will focus on the theme of Thriving Together. Elected officials, activists, organizers, faith leaders, entertainers, change-makers, NAACP members and residents will convene to celebrate the Black community’s collective power. Through workshops, plenary sessions, and panel discussions, we will forge a path forward on the most pressing issues facing Black communities today, including voter suppression, student debt, affirmative action, police brutality and reproductive rights. 

Recently, the NAACP announced that the 114th National Convention will feature The Hub, an immersive experience celebrating Black culture and promoting social impact. Free and open to the public, the Hub will take place at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, starting on July 28, 2023.

     Attendees will be able to support Black-owned brands at the 

 The Supreme Court at the behest of former President Trump and Senator McConnell rules with Six Despotic Justices . These Justices have demonstrated their commitment to use their power in an  extremely cruel manner to roll back the rights of Black people, immigrants, women, and members of the LGBTQ community. They’re ruling now with the same vengeance and retribution  against affirmative action programs in colleges  once used during the Jim Crow era.

     A 15-day “Rolling Protest” against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Maga Republican Party new Jim Crow policies ended with a lot of national and local news coverage plus declarations by progressive Blacks, Labor and LGBTQ organizations to ignite an unprecedented vote against “white supremacy” candidates in the 2024 elections.

   Today, I find myself in the woods at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery for the Homegoing of a dear brother,  Charles W. Cherry, II. For those of us who professed to know Charles, we said to each other: this is just like Charles, the uniqueness of this  place and the way Charles chose to exit from this life as we know it.       Pete’s Namesake is going to be just fine. As long as he remembers the promises he made and moves methodically in the sand.  New Pete has to remember that he has nine bosses, but he is the boss of literally the tens of thousands who work for Broward Schools. As long as he draws those lines in the sand and keeps everyone on the straight, narrow and clear path, he will be fine.
