       The electricity in Chicago at the Democratic National Convention remains undeniable. Still, the real story is how Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign has sent shockwaves far beyond the United Center, energizing battleground states that will decide the 2024 election. What was once a campaign facing significant challenges has transformed into a dynamic, unstoppable force. Harris now leads in most national and battleground state polls—a stunning development achieved in just over a month.

       Sitting in a wheelchair, Jackson soaked in the celebration Sunday night from the front of the auditorium where he had so many times urged on his followers. For more than three hours, he received a constant stream of admirers who said they had been trained and inspired by him over the decades. All the while, prominent Democrats spoke from the stage.

        When did politics become such fun? While Democrats will roll up our sleeves to win the November election, in the meantime our candidates are clearly having a good time with the process. Every time she strides across a stage, she beams. Her smile is an incandescence. Her wave joyful.  And as we get to know him, her avuncular running mate projects joy and confidence. The chemistry between Vice President Harris and Minnesota is visible and bodes well for this campaign.

At the Democratic National Convention, a cadre of leading Democratic women took the stage, unleashing a barrage of critiques against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, framed by the Republicans’ notorious record on women’s issues. The stark differences in vision and values of the twice-impeached and 34-times convicted former president, his vice-presidential nominee, and Vice President Kamala Harris and her surrogates were on full display in Chicago.

        At this week’s 50th quadrennial Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the city’s eleventh time hosting, the Black Political Excellence Fund is sponsoring a reception to fete seven female African American State Party Chairs, an historic benchmark for the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC). Moreover, Jeanna Repass of Kansas, Lavora Barnes of Michigan, Daniele Monroe-Moreno of Nevada, Alicia Andrews of Oklahoma, Dr. Rosa Colquitt of Oregon, Christale Spain of South Carolina, and Congresswoman Nikema Williams of Georgia, are the first Black women to hold these positions in their respective states.
