     Mrs. Hezeree has walked through many “valleys of the shadows of death” and each time, she victoriously emerged from each valley into the sunlight of life.  She shared gospel and light with her husband, children, the churches, and the world as a Foster Grandparent, Mother of the International Chaplains of Florida, businesswoman and owner of Fair Deal Beauty Shop (currently evolved to Ethel’s Beauty Salon), wife, mother, and musician.            

     On Monday June 20, state and federal buildings were closed for the historic Juneteenth holiday. But Mayor Hazelle Rogers and her staff opened the Lauderdale Lakes Multipurpose Center to host the Broward County Democratic Black Caucus’ Black Town Hall.

The NextEra Energy Scholarship for Black Students in SECME: A merit award of up to $20,000 for college-bound high school seniors who have at least one year of experience volunteering in the Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME) and plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming 2021-2022 academic year. The reward will be $5,000 per year, renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. 

     But something interesting happened in 2016. Miami-Dade Blue began to gravitate toward Red and now it is more of a Purple county that is struggling to maintain its Blue Hue. Palm Beach, especially the more affluent areas akin to Mara Lago, are also adding some Red flavor to the Blue punch. Broward county maintained it Groovy Blue status in 2016, but six years later, something feels funky.

A Citizen Science event was held June 16 at Palm Beach State College’s Loxahatchee Groves campus to expose underserved high school juniors and seniors to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) disciplines and programs.
