A criminal jury trial is scheduled to commence on June 9, 2025, at the Broward County Courthouse. Former Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie, who joined BCPS in 2011, has pleaded not guilty to the rarely charged but often threatened charge of perjury in an official proceeding, a third-degree felony, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. He was arrested on April 22, 2021, by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Florida A&M University has selected Charter telecommunications executive Marva Johnson as its 13th president, a decision that comes after weeks of controversy, emotional testimony, and deep concern from many students, supporters, alumni, and faculty.
Marva Johnson’s path to the presidency of Florida A&M University was dealt a significant blow Friday. The FAMU Foundation, responsible for supplementing presidential salaries, took no action on Johnson’s salary. By a unanimous vote, the Finance Committee tabled budgeting for the salary that could top out at $750,000,00 a year. That came after members voiced numerous concerns over their fiduciary responsibilities to students and priorities that ranked above and beyond Johnson’s salary.
Representative Dotie Joseph (D- Miami) was honored alongside fellow founders Yolanda Strader, Annika Ashton, Loreal Arscott, Reggie Clyne, and the late Beranton Whisenant, whose son accepted a posthumous tribute on his behalf. Rolling up their sleeves, these bar association presidents planned, organized, and mobilized their respective voluntary bar association–which included the Wilkie D. Ferguson Bar Association, Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association, the Haitian Lawyers Association (HLA), the Caribbean Bar Association (CBA) and later the Franklin Cunningham Bar Association.
