Jackson almost didn’t compete in the 500m at the Olympics; however, her teammate Brittany Bowe gave up her spot, allowing Jackson to replace  her. Not only is she the first Black woman to win an individual medal in speed skating, but she is also the first US woman to win a speed skating gold at the winter Olympics since Bonnie Blair did in 1994. It is amazing to see women, specifically Black women, making monumental achievements in history.

The Pompano Beach CRA is firing up the grills for a mouth-watering competition that will stoke local business development. The CRA is seeking the best pit bosses in Pompano Beach to apply for the Collier City BBQ Throwdown. This St. Louis style barbeque rib competition is scheduled for February 26 from 2 pm – 6 pm. Sponsored cash prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants, and essential information will be provided to those aspiring to launch a successful business within the City.      Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward’s Swing for Kids’ Sake golf tournament presented by BMW Pembroke Pines raised $94,000 in support of the professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.  The tournament, chaired by Big Brothers Big Sisters longtime board member John Corrado, was a sell-out with 144 golfers at the Club at Weston Hills.

     The Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPS, IPH) Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Class of 2021 made unprecedented gains in their performance on the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination® (NAPLEX®) and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE).

     “Frederick McKinley Jones was a prolific early 20th century Black inventor who helped to revolutionize both the cinema and refrigeration industries.  Over his lifetime, he patented more than sixty inventions in divergent fields with forty of those patents in refrigeration. He is best known for inventing the first automatic refrigeration system for trucks.

The Pompano Beach Cultural Center is proud to present the humorous and insightful stage play Willie & Esther, starring 70s television legends Ted Lange and BerNadette Stanis.  Combining quick-witted dialogue and deeply emotional scenes, James Graham Bronson’s story follows two middle-aged African American lovers as they fantasize about robbing a bank. Ted Lange, best known for his role as Isaac on The Love Boat, and BerNadette Stanis, who gained fame as Thelma in the groundbreaking sitcom Good Times, portray the couple for two special performances; Saturday, March 26 at 7pm and Sunday, March 27 at 3pm.
