n a powerful display of creativity and cultural pride, the Zeta Chi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. hosted its annual Dr. Malcolm M. Black Talent Hunt Competition on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. The event brought together ten outstanding high school students from Broward County, each of whom captivated the audience through their vocal, instrumental, dance, spoken word, or visual art performances.

   Melody Evans has achieved a major milestone, officially earning her Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from Florida A&M University’s College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (FAMU-COPPS). The accomplishment marks the next step in a long-standing commitment to healthcare and education — and sets the stage for an exciting future.

       Following the culturally rich Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s, Chicago fostered its own vibrant gumbo of writers, painters, and a golden age of jazz/gospel. World War I’s labor demands lessened racial barriers. Visionary Robert Sengstacke Abbott, founder and editor of the influential Chicago Defender, recognized this opportunity and encouraged Southern Blacks—sharecroppers and their descendants—to move North. The used Pullman porters to distribute thousands of copies throughout the South, advertising jobs and a more tolerant racial climate.

Continuing its proud tradition of excellence and service, the Eta Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was honored with multiple prestigious awards at the recent 88th Annual 7th District Meeting, held in Orlando, Florida. The 7th District of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. comprises 140 chapters located throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. Eta Nu’s deep commitment to uplifting communities across Pompano Beach and Broward County earned them the top designation of Social Action Chapter of the Year, Large Chapter for the 2023-2024 fraternal year.
