On Thanksgiving break, I was blessed to be able to go to Arlington, Texas to experience the Texas culture. I was able to go to the AT&T stadium and get a VIP Tour and watch the Dallas Cowboys play the Buffalo Bills.
Garth Coleridge Reeves Sr. was one of the original Old Timers. Before he died Nov. 25, Reeves was the group’s oldest and longest member. He was 100 years old before he succumbed to pneumonia. His next birthday would have been Feb. 12. He had one employer apart from the U.S. military – The Miami Times. He was its publisher and he used the newspaper as his bully pulpit to beat down injustice and elevate Black people.

Floyd was informed that there were several chapter members whose families lost everything after the destruction of the Category 5 Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. Doris’ special pre-Thanksgiving deliveries included all the traditional fixings of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, cranberry sauce and pie. At Abi’s Place, 13 families were treated to a Thanksgiving meal for the annual “Friendsgiving.” In Sunrise, Arc Culinary, a social enterprise of Arc Broward, helped carve the turkey and taught the School of Hire students how to properly set a table with linen and cutlery for the special meal.
