In today’s world, it can sometimes feel like negativity is everywhere. From social media arguments to stressful news stories, it’s easy to get caught up in frustration and anger. But one thing we often forget is that positivity can be just as powerful. A single encouraging word, a smile, or a small act of kindness can brighten someone’s entire day.

For much of my journey, I leaned heavily into doing. I often felt a strong sense of urgency, sometimes necessary, sometimes self-imposed. I have tried to build bridges with urgency. Not recklessly, but with a genuine desire to help close gaps and remove obstacles. When I noticed barriers, I felt compelled to respond quickly. At the time, it felt like responsibility. In reflection, I now see it was also a belief that my involvement was always required.

During Women’s Appreciation Month, I want to recognize the woman I admire the most—my mom. I truly appreciate everything she has done and still does for our family. No matter how hard life gets, she always finds a way to turn a bad situation into something better and keep us moving forward.

That’s why fighting the good fight feels personal to me. The Apostle Paul’s words, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”, aren’t about perfection. They’re about endurance. About staying in the fight even when you’re tired, bruised, and unsure how the next round will go.
Andy Donado still remembers the call he received a decade ago: his freshman son had been caught vaping THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in a high school restroom. The consequences were severe. His son was expelled, and sent to a remedial school for the rest of the year. “He was almost charged with a third-degree felony. He got kicked out of school and was sent to a remedial school for his entire freshman year,” Donado says.
