Join us as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of South Florida Council of African Elders. The Council was formed in August 2023 from a collective, expressed longing for the presence of elder wisdom. In contrast to societal American values that sometimes sideline, diminish and dismiss elders, the council exists to help current and future generations safeguard the most important elements of legacy. For communities of African descent living in America, those elements include dignity, self-determination, freedom, healing, unity, community, and justice. In community, we reconstruct our relationships, restore emotional health and self-governance.
We welcome you to meet the Elders, celebrate year one and the years ahead and, together, develop the blueprint for our ongoing healing and success. Highlights include drumming, a word from Brandy of Village Academy about the importance of Elders to African-descent youth, and sound healing by Peace and Love Wellness. The conversation took place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, Gallery B, from 4-6 p.m.
