    Abortion is one of the top issues for voters during this election cycle with experts saying that it will determine who will be in the white house. As of October 6, 2024, 11 states have certified abortion ballot measures for the general election. If voters pass these ballot initiatives, their states will ensure abortion rights regardless of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, the case that federally protected abortion rights for 49 years. 7 states have had abortion-related measures on the ballot since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Supreme Court decision in June of 2022. Voters passed the measures in 4 of these states (Passed in Ohio, California, Michigan and Vermont. Defeated in Kansas, Kentucky and Montana).

Black women are more likely to receive a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer than their white counterparts.

   In releasing the advisory, “Parents Under Pressure: The U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on the Mental Health and Well-Being of Parents,” Dr. Vivek H. Murthy specifically addressed the needs of the 63 million caregivers (e.g., biological parents, adoptive parents, stepparents, other kin) who handle the day-to-day responsibilities of raising children up to the age of 18.

Men Voting to Support Reproductive Rights Could Help Send Kamala Harris to the White House

   At the beginning of the Kamala Harris campaign, Black women were full of joy. Some observers described the Harris effort as “the joy campaign”.

       The Tar Creek Superfund site is the first such site to have its clean-up efforts led by an Indigenous tribe. It sits in what was once the Tri-State Mining District, which supplied the lead and zinc for more than 75 percent of the American bullets and shells used in World Wars I and II.

        Kenya’s police chief announced on October 12, 2024, that an additional 600 police personnel would be prepared for deployment in early November as part of a UN-backed operation to attempt to stem the widespread gang violence in Haiti.

     National and state laws set some guardrails for our elections, but elections are managed locally. That means that elections are run by our friends and neighbors. Thousands of veterans and members of military families are working at polling stations, as are nurses, retirees, small business owners and others. “We the People” indeed.

     Over the years, as national leaders and members of the public recognized the drawbacks of an anarchic world, they turned toward developing institutions of global governance, including international law, a League of Nations, and eventually the United Nations. International security, they believed, would help to maintain national security.
