     Since its creation, , the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has honored its mission by returning a cumulative total of $17.5 billion to 200 million consumers who have been harmed by violations of federal consumer financial protection law. Its  Victim Relief Fund,  administers the return of hard-earned monies to consumers such as cancelled debts, reduced principal, and other illegal transactions.

  Ocoee, next to Orlando, witnessed these tools combined to instigate the notorious 1920 “Voting Day Massacre.” Moses Norman, a prominent man in the Black community, went to exercise his 15th amendment right to vote. White poll workers promptly turned him away, informing him that he had failed to pay a $1 poll tax. He consulted Orlando Judge John Cheney, who advised him of his rights and he returned. The members of the Klan were incensed and a menacing crowd stopped his attempt. 

Transportation officials have started working on a proposal that could lead to a new toll road linking Interstate 10 and U.S. 98 in Northwest Florida, as the state’s Turnpike Enterprise increases its presence in the region.

     The Holy Cross Rehabilitation Institute, located near the Rio Vista neighborhood, offers a wide range of physical therapy specialties to treat a variety of conditions including post-operative and nonsurgical orthopedic conditions; sports medicine injuries; balance conditions and gait dysfunction; as well as vestibular and concussion rehab.

Florida utility regulators and other industry officials are objecting to a federal proposal aimed at reducing greenhouse-gas emissions from power plants, arguing the changes could drive up costs for consumers and hurt the reliability of the state’s electric system.

     Finding ways to convince people to register to vote, vote by mail or just vote is Florence Shelton-Clark’s mission as a member of the Manatee County Democratic Party’s Black Caucus.  Even though there have been many times she’s been ready to give up, she keeps up the hard work.

A hundred Black girls, students from Newark, East Orange and Hillside, New Jersey, traveled to Yale University as part of the Be the Changemakers program which was hosted again this year by Seton Hall University and is part of the expanded East Orange Summer Work Experience Program.
